The new Riva 88’ Folgore has won the prestigious Best New Series Award at the Boat International Design and Innovation Awards. The Riva model was chosen for the plaudit from a selection of six finalists. The 26.9m yacht was launched in May 2020. Arriving in the wake of the Dolceriva, the 2019 model that opened the way stylistically for a new Riva era, Folgore not only introduces new styling cues but also brings something extra to the mix too. Like the Dolceriva, the Riva 88’ Folgore has two simple lines running along its profile, very much reflecting Officina Italiana Design’s clean, rigorous styling philosophy. Certain aesthetic features help make this boat unique, not least the slight reverse-angle of its windshield and the striking design of its hull windows which run like a deft upward black pencil stroke along its silvery flank.Another innovative styling element is the glazing set into the superstructure which opens both aftward and forward to allow air to circulate either underway or at anchor. A final new addition on both an engineering and design level is the aft hatch that folds out from the hull and has two positions: parallel to the waterline to create a six sq. m beach club or submerged to launch and retrieve the tender.Sergio Beretta and Mauro Micheli (Officina Italiana Design) “We are so incredibly proud of this award. We are delighted that Folgore was selected as Best New Series. This 88’ has been very warmly received by the international market despite the huge difficulties caused by the pandemic. It has been embraced as a safe, stylish island for people that like to stand out from the crowd,” says Mauro Micheli, Chief Designer Officina Italiana Design. Riva is part of the Ferretti Group. This Group, led by Chief Executive Officer Alberto Galassi, is now one of the world’s leaders in the construction and sale of luxury yachts and pleasure vessels with a unique portfolio of brands: Ferretti Yachts, Riva, Pershing, Itama, Mochi Craft, CRN, Custom Line and Wally. The British company Winch Design has announced today that it is now fully employee owned. ‘Employee ownership sits beautifully with the Winch ethos as a company which has always placed the highest value on its people, whose loyalty, talent and commitment have played a vital part in the success of the business’, says the company statement. It is a natural progression, rather than a change to the current and future modus operandi at Winch, which was set by Andrew and Jane Winch thirty-five years ago.Over the last six years, leadership of Winch has been bolstered with Clive Beharrell as Chairman, Aino Grapin as CEO and long-standing studio heads, Simon Tomlinson and Jim Dixon, made Directors in 2019. Under this leadership, the business has flourished, growing in size, stability and capability, whilst organically transitioning from a ‘yacht designer’ to a global design studio across land, sea and air.The Winch Employee Ownership Trust (WEOT) is now the sole shareholder of the company, thus ensuring that the company remains privately held and under ongoing stewardship of the dedicated Winch team. As Co-Directors of the Operating Board, Aino, Jim and Simon will continue to have responsibility for the leadership of Winch Design, together with the Senior Leadership team, who run the company. Jim Dixon (Director Yachts and Aviation), Aino-Leena Grapin (CEO) and Simon Tomlinson (Director Architecture)Andrew’s role has also evolved over recent years. The day-to-day running of the company has been in the hands of the Senior Leadership Team for several years now. He will focus more on his role as a creative sounding board, participating in regular design reviews with Jim and Simon. Andrew will sit on the Board of Trustees for at least five years and also wishes to broaden his role externally, wanting to inspire young people across the industry at the start of their careers, as well as continuing to expand his patronage of British craftsmanship.“I am immensely proud of the team. Today’s announcement is another exciting milestone in our history and such a natural progression of all the great work that has been done to get us to this point. I believe every single person at Winch Design is exceptional and it is their collaborative spirit that is the true strength of the Winch studio. I thank them and also extend huge thanks to our many clients and friends in the industry who have helped us to reach this exciting moment. The Winch DNA is unique and will only get stronger as the adventure continues. 2021 is a special year for Winch, as we celebrate our 35 years in business, but I am so excited to look forward as the next chapter in our history unfolds,” says Andrew Winch.Сredits: Winch Design

Palm Beach GT60 is the new high-performance, high-tech flagship of the yard, ready to debut in Europe at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2021. Her lines were made by yacht designer and CEO Mark Richards. The GT60 features an enormous single-piece curved glass windshield, large electric side and aft windows in the salon, and full-beam entertaining spaces in both the salon and cockpit. The layouts are practical and modern, while still retaining the true nautical feel of a cruising yacht. “On the water the GT60 follows closely in the footsteps of the previously launched GT50. Both yachts prove that our build practices and engineering know-how results in a vessel that is at once stylish, luxurious, and has a performance curve that is unmatched in the industry,” says Richards. “No doubt the performance can be attributed directly to our weight-saving advanced construction techniques, including vacuum-infused carbon fiber in the deck and superstructure. This weight reduction and strength of our acclaimed performance-hull design sets the GT60 apart.”In stateside sea trials last week near the company’s U.S. headquarters in Stuart, Florida, the new GT60 reached speeds exceeding 40 knots at wide open throttle on its twin Volvo IPS 1350 powerplants. Where the GT60 truly shines is in fuel efficiency that sees only 75 gallons per hour (combined, or roughly 37.5 per engine) operating at speeds of 35 knots. In 1995 Mark Richards launched a boatbuilding business in Palm Beach, New South Wales, Australia. He started with a single philosophy that he continues to employ today: Provide the customer with a product that’s as close to perfection as humanly possible. Mark’s team graduated from building high-tech sailing yachts to power yachts. Today the company builds a 42, 45, 50, 52, 55, 65, and the 70 Classic Series and the GT50 and 60.Сredits: Palm Beach Motor Yachts

The Rome-based design studio led by Bernardo and Martina Zuccon wins the prestigious Boat International Design & Innovation Award 2021 for the exterior design of the Sanlorenzo SX112 in the Outstanding Exterior Motor Yacht Design – 24m to 39.9m category.Judges felt SX112 creates an entirely new boating: "In this very competitive category, the SX112 stood out for the skilful use of space and glass surfaces [...] for the unusual layout and stylistic features that emphasize the connection with the environment such as the large beach club with multiple openings”.Martina and Bernardo Zuccon“I am highly honoured to have received such a prestigious award together with Sanlorenzo, with which the Studio has a close and profitable partnership,” said Bernardo Zuccon. “SX112 is a great example of organic, extremely fluid architecture for a yacht inspired by the world of large marine mammals. It is a boat designed to experience the sea directly, limiting the barriers that separate man from nature. We wanted to open up the yacht to the sea through a simple and direct reworking of the spaces. In more detail, the stern area at the heart of the project has been designed as a spacious beach house where interiors and exteriors flow harmoniously into each other, giving the owner the chance to experience the spaces on board in a completely new way.”The iconic beach house designed by Studio International Project was also one of the finalists in the Lifestyle Feature category of the Boat International & Innovation Awards 2021, together with the master suite project for the Sanlorenzo H1 Alloy.Zuccon International Project established in Rome in 1972 by architects Gianni Zuccon and Paola Galeazzi and headed today by their children Bernardo and Martina. Today it works in partnership with prestigious shipyards, including Sanlorenzo and Perini Navi. Credits: Zuccon International Project
