56’ Rivale Hard Top is the newest addition to the range. 56’ Rivale’s magnificent and functional Hard Top aims to satisfy the needs of owners by offering a spacious main deck shaded by awnings, the result of a functional design that is especially popular in markets where the average temperature is very high. It is no coincidence that the first unit is already on the other side of the Atlantic, sailing in American waters. The 56’ Rivale Hard Top follows on from the Dolceriva Hard Top and is part of the evolution of the Open range, consolidating a market segment that has been Riva’s main focus right from the outset, one that includes the brand’s most iconic models, such as Riva Iseo, Acquariva Super and Rivamare. Another example is Riva 68’ Diable, the project officially presented a few weeks ago as the ultimate expression of this segment.56’ Rivale Hard Top is the result of collaboration between the Product Strategy Committee led by Mr. Piero Ferrari, the creative flair of designer Mauro Micheli, the founder of Officina Italiana Design with Sergio Beretta, and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department. The yacht has a Williams 325 tender. The aft section of the cockpit is fitted with a generous sun pad. The deck lounge is furnished with generous forward-facing seating, an L-shaped sofa and a teak table on the port side. The helm station is equipped with touchscreen-based control, monitoring and navigation systems, including the engine panel in the innovative wide version from MAN-Boening. Behind the helm station, the side cabinet contains a refrigerator, an ice maker, a grill and a wash basin, plus bar equipment and accessories for at least six people. The bow area has a sun pad with reclining headrest that can be sheltered by an awning. Forward of the sun pad is an anti-slip, walk-on glass panel set in a stainless steel frame, completed by the signal horn in its gorgeous vintage casing. The yacht has three en-suite cabins. The master stateroom is on the starboard side, with a VIP cabin forward, and both have their own bathroom. Completing the layout is a double cabin with two bunk beds served by a bathroom that is also used as a day head. On request, the third guest cabin can be replaced with a crew cabin.56’ Rivale Hard Top is fitted with a pair of MAN engines rated 1200 mhp, powering the yacht to a top speed of 38 knots and a cruising speed of 34 knots. Tommaso Spadolini reveals the design of the new Explorer 49.5. The project, started a year ago and commissioned by an Italian owner, is now in the final stages before the start of construction. “The owner's demands were very clear from the very beginning,” says Tommaso Spadolini. “First of all, to have large spaces, with as few differences in level as possible, and to have them covered and protected from the wind, so that the yacht could be enjoyed not just in the summer but mid-season as well. Then, they asked for a lift connecting all the bridges and, finally, for a flying bridge that wasn't a classic... flying bridge!” Tommaso SpadoliniThis is why Spadolini designed a flybridge – which can be reached by a lift, a staircase for guests and a service staircase for the crew – that was not just an area to relax in, with the classic “structural” sundeck, but a real meeting place for the owner and his family around the central galley unit, the large worktops and the table for twelve. In addition to the protection provided by the hardtop, it is possible to fit a “sail-inspired” sprayhood, which protects the flybridge on three sides when at anchor in a roadstead.Transforming spaces – is one of the distinguishing features in the exteriors of this Explorer 49.5. For example the absence of fixed sunbathing areas was a specific request. Umbrellas and sunbeds can be removed as required. Sunbeds and umbrellas also furnish the large flush deck cockpit that conceals a swimming pool. When closed, it remains perfectly integrated in the flooring; when opened, a hydraulic system raises it by 70 centimetres and it can be filled with sea water and enjoyed while sailing. Moving towards the stern, the transformer in the centre of the large swim platform allows people to get on or off the dinghy comfortably. “We also designed a second service tender, because one of the owner's requests was that the side-opening aft garage should be able to accommodate a tender of at least six meters, in aluminium, with a bow that can be opened to bring ashore the motocross bikes and the quad that will be on board,” says Spadolini. “A rescue boat will be positioned at the bow.”Another special feature of the yacht is three galleys. The open galley on the flybridge, the professional main galley on the lower deck, and a private galley on the main deck for the owner and his guests. In terms of the sleeping area, a classic layout was chosen. On the main deck we find the full-beam master suite with study, walk-in wardrobe and a double bathroom with central shower. The Explorer 49.5 will be built with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure and Tommaso Spadolini has managed, in these twelve months, to keep it under 500 GT: a very important feature for a 49.5m yacht and also a request from the owner. “We are currently finalising the full technical specification: the Explorer 49.5 will have a guaranteed transatlantic range with a speed of ten knots using CAT engines. Everything has been designed to be able to safely cope with extreme navigations such as those in the Arctic Sea.” With the project now almost complete, it is time to choose the shipyard that will construct it. “We are considering several possibilities,” Spadolini concludes. "For now, all we can say is that it will definitely be built in Italy.”Credits: Tommaso Spadolini

Heesen has shared the news about Project Akira. The concept was presented in 2019 at the Monaco Yacht Show. The construction on the 56.7m superyacht will commence on speculation later this year at Heesen’s facility in Oss, the Netherlands. “We see great potential for this new model,” says Arthur Brouwer, Heesen’s CEO. “Akira is the only 57m, all-aluminium fast motor yacht with a Northern European pedigree available for delivery in Spring 2024. The 57m Aluminium design represents the perfect counterpoint to our successful 55m Steel Class and is ideal for those clients who seek speed, efficiency and volume.”With her long waterline, lightweight aluminium structure, exacting weight control and highly efficient Fast Displacement Hull Form – a patented design devised by van Oossanen and engineered by Heesen – she will achieve the extraordinary top speed of 22 knots with relatively small engines (two MTU 16V 4000 M65L). A draft of just 2.3m makes her an ideal platform from which to explore the turquoise shallows of the Bahamas.A contemporary, elongated profile was drawn by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects. Perfect proportions and eye-catching, innovative design details will make her instantly recognisable. The Harrison Eidsgaard studio worked closely with Omega and the engineers at the shipyard to create a layout and interior design that perfectly harmonises with the exterior. The décor adopts a clean but carefully considered aesthetic that invites personalisation while showcasing loose, precious artisanal furniture. Reflective materials used throughout – high gloss sycamore, laminated glass, metallic mesh – bounce light around the interior and create a pleasing, tactile ambience that frames far-reaching views out to sea. Stainless steel finishes, dark pewter accents and metalised materials bring a sense of warmth inside without detracting from the beauty of the outdoors.Six cabins accommodate up to twelve guests. The light and spacious 63 sq. m owner’s apartment is located forward on the main deck, while there are four double ensuite cabins laid out down below, and a special VIP cabin up on the bridge deck. All decks are served by a glass elevator.Tenders and toys are stored on the foredeck, making the beach club in the stern the perfect spot for relaxing by the water, with a fixed swim platform for easy access to the sea.“Yacht connoisseurs understand how extraordinary it is to build a high-speed aluminium motor yacht. It takes exacting naval architecture, precision engineering, meticulous welding and rigorous weight control,” says Heesen CCO Friso Visser. “Few shipyards have the skills to do it. Even fewer can afford to risk it on a speculative build. At Heesen, we have the confidence that comes from the knowledge and experience of delivering outstanding performance yachts, year after year.”Project Akira will be available for delivery in 2024.Heesen Yachts is a Dutch ship building company that specializes in custom-built superyachts in aluminium and steel from 30m to 70m in size. Founded in 1978, it has launched more than 170 yachts since its inception.Credits: Heesen
