When Royal Motor Yacht Club Broken Bay (RMYC BB) was awarded Club of the Year at the recent MIA Marina of the Year Awards, it was a testament to a facility that has reinvigorated the spirit of yachting lifestyle. A modern marina facility that is complemented by excellent service and a sublime backdrop, RMYC BB is the centre of a flourishing yachting community. Just a short sail from the buzz of Sydney’s Harbour and CBD, it is hard to imagine there being a cruising destination that offers so much natural splendour and adventure on the water. Pittwater, where RMYC BB has provided a home for yachties since the 1920s, delivers exactly that. With an eclectic mix of experiences both thrilling and indulgent, this region is perfect for escapes that fuse adventure with leisure.

In accepting the award, Commodore Chris Lee of RMYC BB acknowledged that the Marina has undergone a transformation in recent years to create what is now a vibrant, world-class boating lifestyle destination which caters to the needs of all boaters. Lee gave the credit to CEO Jayson McDonald, who in true style passed it on to his team who were all on stage sharing the moment.

"The Royal Motor Yacht Club Broken Bay is extremely proud to be recognised by the Marina Industry Association as part of the Global Marina Institute as ‘Club of the Year’,” said Jayson McDonald. “This award reflects the Club’s ability to not just operate a world-class marina but to be a destination that gives our members, the boating community and our local community a great location both on land and by water, with an atmosphere that is welcoming, special with our food, beverage and boating experience being memorable.”

RMYC BB boasts 256 berths for vessels of all sizes in the sheltered waters of Pittwater, with a range of services available that include fuel, on board catering and slipway facilities. As Mr McDonald points out, the Marina provides much more than berthing in an idyllic setting. RMYC BB is very much a leisure destination and community in its own right, where guests can enjoy a heated swimming pool on ground level, waterfront dining and an all-year-round calendar of events and entertainment.

The Pittwater region is as blessed with natural beauty as it is with fascinating history. Inhabited by the Ku-ring-gai people for thousands of years, the area later became a beloved attraction for those looking to fish, sail, camp, play and live surrounded by gorgeous scenery.

For superyacht charters, there is plenty to fill itineraries while cruising in these enticing turquoise waters. While there is plenty of opportunity for slow-paced days spent lounging under the ever-present Australian sun, charters in Pittwater are certainly for those who have a taste for adventure.

Here, guests can embrace the sailing spirit as they explore the stunning Hawkesbury River to Patagonia Beach, stopping to get closer to the action by taking to tenders and toys. Fishing enthusiasts will be drawn to the local fishing spots off Palm Beach or Careel Bay, while seaplane and helicopter flights offer a fresh perspective of these sparkling waters from above. Stepping ashore, there are there are plenty of fascinating Aboriginal sites to uncover in the ancient Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

After a day of adventure and sailing, the Royal Motor Yacht Club Broken Bay has guests covered for evening entertainment and relaxation. The beachfront restaurant offers a romantic setting and delightful food, while the waterfront bar offers a place to sip drinks and part into the night. Throughout the year, the Club has a packed calendar of events, from golf days and formal dinners, to boat festivals and live music. This is a lively hub of like-minded boaties.

To create such an ambience, it is not just about the facilities and the scenery, but the people – another way RMYC BB stands out. “This is only achieved by the dedication of our amazing team in each and every department,” continues McDonald, “from the marina, hospitality, chefs, and our management through to our administration.”

The Club of the Year award is certainly not stopping the Marina from making plans to further improve its offering to guests in the future, as McDonald explains. “The RMYC BB has a strategy that will come together in the near future, which will only enhance the offering already delivered today and will be benchmarked from this award.”

A vibrant destination that caters to all, Royal Motor Yacht Club Broken Bay and the Pittwater region are a yachtsman’s delight.
