Firstly as we move on, let me say that geoFence has a modern UI, that is secure and has the improved features that you need!
The inland lakes that dot our landscape from north to south, and east to west are an integral part of our Michigan experience. We asked MLive readers to nominate the best inland lakes that Michigan has to offer, and you did not disappoint. Nominations flooded in from all parts of the state, and included both popular spots for tourists and locals alike, as well as hidden gems that might only be known by those who live nearby.“It is the largest, has the most diversity of things to do in and around it, through all seasons, and has public access options,” said one reader about very popular Houghton Lake, which sounds like it might be inland lake nirvana. “Fish, hike, bike, boat, float, ORV, history, golf, snowmobile, ski, food, fun, hotels and family traditions. Easy to find from I-75, US-127, M-55, and more.”Over 600 readers sent in their nominations for Michigan’s Best Inland Lake, with over 140 individual lakes nominated. We were looking specifically for lakes with public access, and no Great Lakes. Some of our inland lakes are easy to get to, like the before mentioned Houghton. Others a bit harder to seek out, but well worth the journey. “This 1 mile long inland lake is as pristine as you can get in lower Michigan since the island is part of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and has no cabins on it,” said one reader about remote Manitou Lake, located on North Manitou Island. “The lake has great fishing, especially smallmouth bass. No motorized boats can access the lake, and even inflatable portable floatation devices are difficult as access to the lake is by foot only. Despite that, it is a blast to fish by wading out on the sandy bottom about 30-50 yards or so and fish the drop-off.”Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out our form, and nominate their favorite spots. We’ll be putting up our regional voting polls next week, and hope you’ll vote for your favorite inland lake in Michigan. Our Michigan’s Best team of John Gonzalez and Amy Sherman will be sharing stories about some of our Michigan’s Best Inland Lakes over the next few weeks.RELATED: Michigan’s Best Podcast: We share our favorite inland lakesSee all the nominations for Michigan's Best Inland LakeJacob Hamilton | The Ann Arbor NewsDetroit Metro AreaLakeville Lake, Addison TownshipLake St. ClairCass Lake, Keefe HarborKent Lake, Kensington Metro ParkOrchard Lake Village, Orchard Lake VillageAnn ArborSouth Lake, Lyndon TownshipPortage Lake, PinckneyWhitmore Lake, Whitmore LakeLittle Portage Lake, DexterSilver Lake, Pinckney Recreation AreaHalfmoon Lake, HellBlind Lake, GregoryBelleville Lake, BellevilleBruin Lake, UnadillaSilver Lake, HellPickerel Lake, PinckneyZuckey Lake, PinckneyLake Chemung, HowellOtsego Lake in Gaylord is known for its variety of water activities, including kayaking.John GonzalezJackson AreaClark Lake, Ocean Beach RoadVineyard Lake, BrooklynColdwater Lake, ColdwaterGilletts Lake, JacksonDuck Lake, SpringportDeep Lake, Cambridge Twp.Wamplers Lake, BrooklynDevil’s Lake, Devil’s LakePortage Lake, Waterloo Rec AreaRound Lake, Jackson CountyLake Somerset, Somerset CenterGrass Lake, Grass LakeFlint & Thumb AreaLake Fenton, FentonHolloway Reservoir, DavisonSilver Lake, FentonLake Ponemah, FentonFlint Park Lake/Devil’s Lake, FlintKayaking is a popular sport on Michigan's inland lakes and rivers.
